Track and Field And Cross Country Athletes Compete at Webb-Davidson Meet

Charlotte, NC - Members of the Johnson & Wales Charlotte Track & Field and Cross Country teams took part in the High Point University Webb-Davidson Meet last weekend. For many of them it was their first outdoor collegiate meet, and by in large the group performed admirably. 

Autumn Young ran the 100 meters in a wind-aided 14.92 to finish in 40th place as she was the first Wildcat woman to compete in a sprint race. Betzy Hilario-Urieta ran both the 800 and 1500 meter races. She finished 48th in the 800m, and bettered that by one spot in the 1500m. Teammate Kacie Delaughter joined her in the 1500m, finishing 50th of 55 competitors. 

Britton Singleton threw the shot 27' 4.5", good enough for 33rd place, outdistancing several athletes from scholarship schools. 

Maleik Chalmers and Hunter Shapiro represented JWU in the men's 200 meters. Chalmers ran a 23.74 to finish 38th, while Shapiro finished in 24.89 to come home 60th in the 73 man field.

Chalmers was back on the track for the 400 meters, and duplicated his 38th place finish in the 200, with a time of 54.96 seconds.

The trio of Stevenson BarnesDillon Neeley, and Camden Misenheimer ran in both the 800 and 1500 meter races. Neeley ran a 2:15.91 to finish 40th, edging out Barnes who trailed him by just .09 of a second to claim 41st place. Misenheimer ran a 2:24.05, good enough for 45th place in a field of 49.

Barnes showed the way in the 1500m, running a 4:22.68 to finish 31st of 55 runners. Neeley ran a 4:25.80 for 37th place, while Misenheimer ran a 4:46.87 for 51st.

The teams are next in action this weekend. Some will compete at the Montreat College Invitational on Friday, March 24th, while others will take part in the Adidas Winthrop Invitational on Saturday, April 25th.
