Box Score 2 Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte tennis teams split their matches against visiting Maryville on Sunday.
The men picked up a 6-3 win as they prevailed in both the singles and doubles matches. The #2 doubles team of Sam Ciciarello and
John Billinis earned the first point of the day for the Wildcats as they won their match 8-1.
Fernando Esteban and
Hugo Cossais then secured the #3 doubles tilt 8-6 over Maryville's Gabriel Villalonga Serra and Kaleb Burke.
Billinis and Cossais also won their singles matches with relative ease.
Justin Wagner won the decisive #3 singles match 7-5, 6-1 to give JWU it's fifth point, and
Dylan Hight closed out play with a three set victory (1-6, 6-2, 6-3) in the #6 singles match.
The Wildcat women fell 8-1 in their match.
Gabriella Tully and
Payton Abrams won 4 games from Maryville's Elizabeth Shwaiko and Mia Brown in the #1 doubles match, while
Mandy Marth and
Kourtney Newton took 3 games from the Scots' Katelyn Cook and Alyssa Smith.Â
Erin Weidner highlighted the Wildcats' efforts in singles as she won her third consecutive singles match 6-0, 6-0 over Josie McRae.
The JWU men are next in action on Friday, March 1st when they host Pfeiffer at 11am. The women are home to Agnes Scott on Wednesday, February 28th at 11:00am.
