Women's Soccer Edges Salem In Opener

Pineville, N.C. - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte women's soccer team won their season opener for the first time since 2019 on Friday night, downing Salem 2-1.

Hannah Greene got the Wildcats on the board in the nineteenth minute as she collected a pass from Olivia Hahn and fired it low and left past Spirits goalkeeper Michaeloa Iapaluccio from fifteen yards out. Azalianna Absalom doubled the JWU advantage when Greene found her on the left and then hit the back of the net with a shot off the outside of her right foot.

The Wildcat defense held Salem to just three shots. Darilyn Nieto gave the Spirits hope with a 50th minute strike, but that would be just one of three shots tallied by Salem in the game.

Jessica Garman led JWU with seven shots, while Olivia Kieffer added three more.

JWU is next in action on Friday, September 5th when they travel to Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00pm match.
