On Tuesday night, the Wildcats traveled to Surry Community College to take on the Knights. JWU was hoping to add another win to their record after winning their match last Saturday against Edward Waters College. The Wildcats had an uphill battle this evening, but fell short. The Knights won the match 3 games to 1.
Game one began with the Knights playing strong and aggressive at the net, putting JWU behind early. The Wildcats would not be able to recover and dropped the first game to the Knights, 25-15.
JWU would respond well in game two taking the early lead with good net control from freshman, Lauren Cordts. The Wildcats made serious errors in offensive attacks, allowing the Knights to tie the score midway through the game. JWU would gain aggression and regain the lead, opening a 7 point advantage. Freshman, Kaitlin Kuntz went on to serve strong in the latter parts of the game. JWU went on to win game two 25-17, to even the match one game apiece.
Game three began as the Knights picked up aggression and took an early lead; opening up a lead as large as five points. However, Coach Phillips used her timeouts to successfully stop the Knights runs during the game. JWU would come out of their final timeout and go on a 6-1 run to tie the game at 22 apiece. Unfortunately, the Wildcats were unable to close the gap and the Knights took the game 25-22, to go up 2 games to 1.
The Wildcats would fall behind early in game four and would not be able to recover. JWU had trouble receiving the Knights serves and fell further behind. The Wildcats dropped game four 25-14, with the Knights winning the match 3 games to 1.
The Wildcats play Winston-Salem State University on Thursday, October 6 at 7:00pm in the JWU Student Center. Come out and support the Wildcats!
