Hot Shooting Quakers Cruise Past Wildcats

Box Score

Charlotte, NC – Johnson and Wales (3-13) hosted the Quakers of Guilford College in their final game before the holiday break. The Quakers started the game on fire from the field, and never looked back, as the Wildcats struggled to keep pace, falling 89-51.

JWU took an early 7-6 lead, but that was short lived as Guilford ran off the next 7 points to take a 13-7 advantage. They would extend their lead to fourteen at 23-9 before back to back 3 pointers allowed the Wildcats to cut the lead to 8. That would be the extent of the highlights for JWU in the first half as Guilford scored 26 of the next 30 points in the game to push their lead to twenty at 39-19 late in the first half. A couple of Wildcats baskets briefly stemmed the tide, but Guilford had an answer, taking a 45-23 halftime lead. The Quakers were paced by Josh Pittman's 18 first half points on 6-6 shooting from 3 point land. Matt McCarthy also reached double figures before the break, as he had 11 points.

The second half proved to be much like the first, as Guilford was never threatened by the Wildcats. They expanded their lead to twenty six in the first minute of the second half at 49-23. Another 10-2 Quaker run saw the lead balloon to thirty at 59-29. The lead would remain around the 30 point mark for much of the second half. Once the reserves for both teams entered the game, Guilford was able to finish off the game in style, as the thirty eight point final margin was the largest of the game. Pittman and McCarthy led the Quaker effort with 20 and 18 points, respectively. Zeb Richardson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jay Keller was the high man for the Wildcats with 11 points, while Kindrick Anderson and Kareem Wilson had 7 points each.  Robbie Sterling was the high man on the glass for the Wildcats with 6.

The Wildcats are off for 3 weeks over the holiday break. They return to action in the friendly confines of the Student Center on January 10th, as they Wildcats host Toccoa Falls College at 7:30pm.
