Box Score Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales (2-2) looked to return to their winning ways as they played host to Christendom College (0-3) on Friday night. The Wildcats used their pressure defense to overwhelm the Crusaders 79-58.
The Wildcats jumped out to an six point lead, 18-12 in the game's first ten minutes. They would extend their lead to 14 behind a pair of three pointers from Bobby Scriven and Duane Chisholm at the 6:20 mark of the first half. Christendom got hot from the field and benefitted from some poor Wildcat decision making over the next six minutes. They made six of their eight shots during that stretch and outscored JWU 18-4 to tie the score at 32 as the period ended.
The Wildcats used suffocating defense to key a 23-6 spurt in the first nine minutes of the second half. They forced 13 Crusader turnovers during that stretch. Duane Chisholm and Nick Crawford each scored six points in the run. JWU would cruise home from there with a 79-58 win.
JWU had five players score in double figures led by DeQuincey Bennett's 15 points. Joshua Cohen added 14, Nick Crawford tallied 13, while Clarence Ellis and Duane Chisholm had 10 each. The Wildcats set school records for margin of victory (21) and turnovers forced (43).
JWU hits the road for four games next week. The first of which takes place Monday, as the Wildcats travel to Durham to take on N.C. Central. Game time is 7:00pm.
