Pineville, NC - The Johnson & Wales men's soccer team picked up their second shutout in less than a week, defeating USC-Lancaster 3-0 at the OrthoCarolina SportsPlex on Wednesday.
Senior goalkeeper Rocky Ramirez earned the clean sheet for the Wildcats (6-0, 4-0 USCAA), making eight saves on the night. He - and the Wildcats - have yet to be scored upon in USCAA play this season.
"We weren't always at our best tonight, but time and time again we seemed to come up with a key tackle or win a 50-50, and Rocky did quite well tonight," said head coach James Drzewiecki. "We've seen him really grow into the role as the season has gone on, and it's good to know that whether we use him or our other goalkeepers, we're going to get quality."
Johnson & Wales would take the advantage in the 21st minute, as Matthew Barriga finished near post on a cross from Jonathan Arellano.
The score remained 1-0 until the 75th minute when Jalen Jackson finished off a pass from Barriga. Jackson would add an insurance goal just over three minutes later, intercepting a poor clearance from the Lancaster keeper and finishing the breakaway for his second goal of the night.
The Wildcats will resume play on Saturday when they travel to High Point, NC, to play Laurel Universeity. The match will kick off at 3:00 p.m. at High Point University.
