Box Score Pineville, NC - A late comeback effort for the Johnson & Wales men's soccer team fell short as the Wildcats fell 4-2 to John Wesley University at home on Wednesday.
Monir Baskaron scored twice in a five minute span for Johnson & Wales (3-6), hammering home a 30 yard free kick in the 69th minute and slotting home a penalty in the 74th minute to set up a frantic finish.
The hosts outshot John Wesley 16-9 on the evening, but found themselves trailing early on a third minute goal.
Johnson & Wales would respond and dominate the chances in the first half, holding an 11-3 advantage, but could not find the breakthrough.
Midway through the second half, John Wesley would score three times in four minutes to seemingly put the match out of reach before Baskaron's efforts pulled the score back to 4-2.
Kennedy Little and John Lowes combined for three saves on the evening. Jalen Jackson, Imani Washington, and Ariel Morales each posted three shots on the night for Johnson & Wales.
The Wildcats will resume play on Saturday when they travel to Front Royal, VA, to play USCAA #11 Christendom College. Kickoff is at 3:00 p.m.
