Box Score Pineville, NC - Two goals in the opening ten minutes set the tone as the Johnson & Wales men's soccer team claimed a comfortable 5-0 victory over visiting USC-Lancaster on Wednesday night.
Imani Washington and JT Fucci both tallied early for the Wildcats (3-4), after a lengthy weather delay interrupted the match just three minutes in.
The win is the team's second over USC-Lancaster in this year's home-and-away series, with Johnson & Wales claiming a 2-0 win in the season opener at Lancaster on August 22.
"I'm happy with how we responded today," said Wildcats head coach James Drzewiecki. "Obviously last week was a tough one, and the weather delay could have thrown us off our rhythm today. Instead, the boys came out flying from the restart. We had some stretches were we played very well. It's good to see the team get back on track."
Washington opened the scoring in the eighth minute, firing home from 12 yards after a failed clearance by the Lancaster defense.
Fucci nabbed his second goal of the season just under two minutes later, heading home a corner kick from Gunner Tootle.
Freshman striker Tito Villanueva would make it 3-0 before the half, turning in Noah Craddock's cross in the 37th minute for his first career goal.
Leading scorer Jalen Jackson would add a brace after halftime to cap the scoring. In the 56th minute, he latched onto a ball won by fullback Ariel Morales and drove through the Lancaster defense to make it 4-0.
Seven minutes later, a neat combination in the box between Jackson and Washington left the sophomore with an easy finish from eight yards for his fifth goal of the campaign.
John Lowes and Andrew Sanchez combined to make two saves on the night for Johnson & Wales.
The Wildcats will resume play on Tuesday when they travel to Allendale, SC, to play USC-Salkehatchie. Kickoff is at 4:00 p.m.
