Box Score Pineville, N.C. - Four goals in the opening 23 minutes set the tone as the USCAA #5 Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team won 5-0 over Oxford College of Emory University on Saturday at the OrthoCarolina Sportsplex.
Jalen Jackson scored twice to push his USCAA-leading goal tally to 26 for the Wildcats (12-0-1).
"The last time we played Oxford, it took us a while to break them down, defensively," said head coach James Drzewiecki. "We challenged the guys today to see if we could get off to a quicker start. It took us a few minutes to find a rhythm, but I think there was about a 15-minute stretch after that where we really responded and did the job."
Weeb Isaac broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when he fired home a rebound from Jackson's initial effort. The goal was the 11th on the year for the freshman.
Less than a minute later, Mo Baskaron doubled the lead, and Jackson would put the game out of reach with a pair of goals in the 18th and 23rd minutes, assisted by Imani Washington and Sam Fanning, respectively.
Fanning capped the scoring in the second half, heading home a free kick from Jason Rosales in the 54th minute.
Kennedy Little and John Lowes each made one save for Johnson & Wales in goal, combining for the team's 11th shutout of the season.
The Wildcats are now unbeaten in their last 15 matches, dating back to last season, posting a 14-0-1 record during that stretch.
The team will resume play on Monday when it travels to High Point, N.C., to play John Wesley University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
