High Point, N.C. - Mo Baskaron converted a penalty and goalkeeper John Lowes saved another as the USCAA #5 Johnson & Wales men's soccer team emerged with a 1-0 win over John Wesley University on Monday night at A.J. Simeon Stadium.

Baskaron scored his second goal in as many games for the Wildcats (13-0-1), slotting home his spot kick in the 29th minute after Weeb Isaac was hauled down in the penalty area by his defender.

Minutes later, the official awarded the hosts a penalty of their own, but Marcos Diaz saw his effort saved by Lowes to hold the score at 1-0.

"It's always a tight game when we play them, and I'm really proud of the performance," said head coach James Drzewiecki.  "The opening 20 minutes were nervy, but once we scored the opener, the guys really grew into the game and showed the same toughness and resolve that has carried us in some of our most difficult matches this year.  We had a little trouble breaking them down, but defensively we looked very good for long stretches tonight.  It's a big win for us, especially against a team that's become a true rival."

The Wildcats outshot John Wesley 13-8 on the night, led by Jalen Jackson's four shots, including three on goal.

Johnson & Wales has now posted 12 shutouts on the season, having allowed just three goals on the campaign.

The team will resume play on Friday when it hosts USC-Sumter at the OrthoCarolina Sportsplex in Pineville, N.C.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
