Box Score 2 Hilton Head, SC - The Johnson & Wales men's tennis team wrapped up play in the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, SC this week showing that they can be competitive with NCAA D-III teams from across the country.
Tuesday saw the Wildcats face off against Penn State-Behrend. The Lions won the match 8-1, but not without a fight from JWU. Samuel Wilder and Dylan Hight paired to win the #2 doubles match 8-5 to get the Wildcats on the scoreboard. Jonathan Millwood took PSU-B's Jonathan Laier to the distance, and then some. They each claimed a set before Laier prevailed 11-9 in the decisive third. Sam Ciciarello similarly pushed Mitchell May, falling 7-6 (11-9), 7-5. In the #6 singles match, Wilder Noyes claimed the first set 6-2 before falling to Alex Graeca 7-6 (8-6) in the second. Noyes fought hard in the last, but Graeca won 10-6.
JWU took on Lancaster Bible College on Thursday, and got off to a great start, as Millwood and Cicciarello teamed to win the #1 doubles match 8-3. Millwood again played a marathon singles match, eventually losing to Devon Clemmer 6-4. 5-7. 12-10. Wilder got a straight set shutout of Micah Weaver to grab the second point for the Wildcats. Ciciarello also went to three sets in his singles match. He won the first set 6-2, before dropping the second 7-5 and the third 10-8.
Friday's scheduled matches against Cornell College were canceled due to weather.
