Box Score Misenheimer, NC - The Johnson & Wales women's tennis team made their season debut on Sunday at the Pfeiffer Invitational. The team played singles and doubles matches against players from Pfeiffer, Agnes Scott, and Southwest Virignia CC.
Gabriella Tully went 1-1 in singles competition, defeating Agnes Scott's Leilah Lewinson in straight sets, and falling to Pfieffer's Megan Rekieta.
Jacqueline Rodgers bested Ava Deckard from Southwest Virginia CC 6-1, 6-0, and lost to Pfeiffer's Alison Sloop 6-4, 1-6, 12-10 in a great match.
Mandy Marth dropped her first match in straight sets to Katherine Cox from Agnes Scott, and then battled Bella Ashby from Southwest Virginia before losing 6-4, 6-3.
Kourtney Newton went 1-1 in singles play, defeating Katisuka Castillo 7-5, 3-0 (retired) from Agnes Scott, and losing to Naomi Shortt from Southwest Virginia.
Payton Abrams fell to Pfeiffer's Ryley Gray and Kristen Colie in straight sets.
Iyana Barber also faced two Pfeiffer players in her singles tilts, losing to Emily Moore 6-2, 6-4 and Delaney Geygan 6-2, 6-0.
Amyra Singleton split her matches, defeating Agnes Scott's Tuesday Muse and losing to Pfeiffer's Chelsey Drye.
In six doubles matches, Tully and Rodgers were the only victors, downing Lewinson and Gibbs from Agnes Scott 8-2.
The Wildcats are next in action at the Belmont Abbey Invitational on October 12th and 13th.
