Track Finishes 9th at CIU

Columbia, SC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte track and field team opened the book on the outdoor portion of their 2024 schedule at the John-Hunter Classic, hosted by Columbia International University on Saturday.

The meet marked the first time that JWU had anyone compete in the women's long jump. JWU entered three jumpers, and the triumvirate all finished in the top 10. Sarah Miline jumped 4.34m to finish in 6th place, while Kaliah Surratt was right behind her, jumping 4.29 meters. Znyah Johnson jumped 4.22m to just miss out on 8th place.

Alonie Baxter ran a 13.91 to come home 15th in the 100 meters., while Maleik Chalmers set new personal and school records by running a 50.38 in the men's 400 meters, finishing 7th.

Dillon Neeley (4:14.65/13th) and Stevenson Barnes (4:20.20/16th) both posted top 20 results in the men's 1500 meters. The pair did even better in the 800m, with Neeley running a 2:03.68 to grab 8th place, while Barnes finished in 2:06.43, good enough for 12th place.

The women finished with 8 total points to finish 9th, besting Presbyterian and Lander. The men finished 10th.

The team is next in action on Friday, March 22nd as they take part in the Elon Invitational.
