Elon, NC - The Johnson & Wales track and field team participated in the Phoenix Invitational yesterday.
Emily Spies became the first Wildcat to ever run the Steeplechase in competition, and posted a time of 8:57.47 to finish 4th in the 2000m event. She was joined in the men's event by Logan Shaffer and Colby Belk. Belk finished 13th in 9:03.57, while Shaffer had an outstanding debut, finishing second in a time of 6:42.85.
Trinity Graham made her collegiate debut in the 100 meters, running a 16.98, good enough for 37th. Teammate
Kaliah Surratt finished one spot better in a time of 15.18, while
Alonie Baxter was the fastest Wildcat, finishing 31st in 14.44.Â
Zynah Johnson and
Sarah Milne both competed in the long jump. Johnson jumped 13' 10 3/4" to finish 28th, while Milne posted a best jump of 13' 3 1/4" for 30th spot.Â
Graham also made her debut in the shot put, throwing 24' 6 14", good enough for 24th, while
Bee Singleton threw 27' 1" for a top 20 result.Â
Stevenson Barnes was the top JWU finisher in the 5000m, claiming 9th place in 16:02.74, while Dylan Neeley (16:26.77/15th) and Dylan Michaud (17:59.83/20th) both finished in the top twenty.
The team in next in action on Friday, March 29th, when they travel to Central, SC to participate in the Gotta Run Invite, hosted by Southern Wesleyan.
