Brevard, NC - The Johnson & Wales track and field team participated in the first annual Tornado Classic hosted by Brevard College on Friday.
The day started with a sweep of the two 10,000 meter races.
Kacie Delaughter won the women's event with a time of 49:15.94. The Wildcats then put three runners on the podium in the men's 10k, as
Dillon Neeley won in 33:48.17, while
Camden Misenheimer was second in 37:02.47, while
Garrett Bradish came home third with a time of 41:28.14.
Emily Spies finished runner-up in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 14:23.79.
Logan Shaffer won the men's version of the event in 10:41.17. Spies grabbed another runner-up in the 1500 meters, running a 6:21.49.
Stevenson Barnes was runner-up in the men's 1500 (4:28.88), with Shaffer finishing right behind in 4:31.63.
Maleik Chalmers emerged victorious in the men's 400 meters posting a 51.67 to win by 2.1 seconds. Chalmers made it two wins in two events as he took the 200 meters in 23.69.
Alonie Baxter was fourth in the women's 100 meters, posting a time of 14.74. She then ran 32.66 in the 200 meters to finish 4th, while
Sarah Milne was 5th in 33.20. The pair duplicated those finishes in the 400 meters.Â
The Wildcat men closed the track events by winning the 4 x 400m relay.
Trinity Graham became the first Wildcat to win a javelin event, throwing 21.39 meters.
Bee Singleton was fourth with a top throw of 15.30 meters, while Zynah Johnson finished 5th with a best toss of 12.17m. Graham and Singleton finished 2nd and 3rd in the shot put with tosses of 8.90 meters and 8.74 meters, respectively.Â
Sarah Milne kicked off a JWU sweep of the distance jumps, as she won the long jump with a 4.80 meter best leap. Johnson finished 3rd with her best mark of 4.43 meters. Johnson then took the crown in the triple jump, posting a mark of 9.03 meters.
The Wildcats will next take part in the USCAA Track & Field National Championships on April 26th and 27th in Springfield, MA.
