On Tuesday December 14th the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University hosted their second consecutive home game, when they took on the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan.
Johnson & Wales University struck often and early catching North Carolina Wesleyan Universityoff guard. After the opening minutes of the first half the Battling Bishops would settle down and trade blow for blow with the Wildcats.
North Carolina Wesleyan University manufactured a 9-0 run mid-way through the first half, which was sparked by strong all around play courtesy of Ric Yarbrough. The Wildcats although trailing, would bounce back and score consecutive baskets before the Battling Bishops changed to a press defense. Johnson & Wales University later adjusted to the defensive pressure, and trimed North Carolina Wesleyan University's lead heading into halftime.
After the conclusion of halftime both teams entered the second half with a strong showing of defensive play and accurate shooting from the field. The Wildcats would strike first during the second half when they went on a 18-6 run. Willie Perlotte's strong play on the offensive end of the court would be one of the bright spots for the Wildcats on Tuesday night, Perlotte recorded a team high of 18 points in Tuesday's contest.
North Carolina Wesleyan University would later burn several time outs late in the second half in order to halt the momentum of Johnson & Wales University. The Battling Bishops would yet again turn up defensive pressure and force the Wildcats into a up tempo style of play, forcing multiple turnovers down the final stretch.
The Battling Bishops capitalized on the Wildcats mistakes, and comfortably widen their margin throughout the second half, ultimately leading to the victory for North Carolina Wesleyan.
Johnson & Wales University will be off until January 4th, 2011 as they leave for the upcoming holiday break. When the Wildcats return to action, they will travel to Rocky Mount, North Carolina as they look to seek revenge against the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan University.
