Swannanoa, NC - The Johnson & Wales men's soccer team were dominant in their USCAA opener, routing Warren Wilson College 10-0 on Saturday.
Jalen Jackson scored four goals for the Wildcats (3-0, 2-0 USCAA), while Noah Craddock, Matthew Barriga, and Durwin Hamilton each scored twice to pace the attack.
Goalkeepers John Lowes, Andrew Sanchez, and Rocky Ramirez each split time in goal, helping Johnson & Wales earn their second shutout of the season.
"It was a very comprehensive performance," said Wildcats head coach James Drzewiecki. "We've been struggling a bit with our execution on the offensive end, but today the timing was good and goals were well taken. That was nice to see. It's easy to relax and give up bad goals when you have a comfortable lead, but I thought our back line did well to keep the pressure off our goalkeepers. There wasn't much to fault today."
Jackson scored twice in less than a minute to give the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage in just the sixth minute of play.
Craddock would add a pair of goals in the 12th and 15th minutes. Matthew Barriga and Durwin Hamilton added insurance in the 23rd and 43rd minutes, respectively, giving Johnson & Wales a 6-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Wildcats would tack on goals in the 60th (Hamilton), 64th (Jackson), 65th (Jackson), and 72nd minutes (Barriga) to complete the scoring.
Jackson led Johnson & Wales with three assists while Jonathan Fucci added two. Iseiah Washington, Jean Paul Gutierrez, Barriga, and Craddock were each created with an assist
The Wildcats will resume play on Wednesday when they host the St. Andrews University reserves at the OrthoCarolina SportsPlex in Pineville, NC.
