Box Score Front Royal, VA - The Johnson & Wales men's soccer team claimed a convincing 5-1 win at USCAA #11 Christendom College on Saturday.
Iseiah Washington scored twice for the Wildcats (4-6), including a thumping header in the 55th minute, to lead the program to arguably it's biggest result to date.
"I'm very happy for the guys," said head coach James Drzewiecki. "It's been a rough stretch for us with injuries really taking a toll on us and our results. Today, we had some players step up and show what we've known we're capable of. We're seeing our younger players - especially our freshmen - starting to show more growth and maturity in the way they play, and it paid off big time today."
Christendom took an early lead just over 13 minutes in when James Foeckler scored to give the hosts the advantage, but Sam Fanning would restore parity in the 21st minute, latching onto Jalen Jackson's quick free kick and firing home from 25 yards out to make it 1-1.
Ten minutes later, Jackson caused more havoc, drawing a foul in the box to earn a penalty for Johnson & Wales. Iseiah Washington calmly slotted the ball home for his first career goal and a 2-1 lead.
Younger brother Imani Washington would get on the score sheet next, slamming home from 12 yards out in the 35th minute on another assist by Jackson.
In the second half, the Wildcats would put the match to rest, with Iseiah Washington finishing his picture-perfect header on a cross from Gunner Tootle, and JT Fucci finishing off a set piece in the box late in the match.
Tito Villanueva was credited with the assist on the final goal.
The Wildcats are scheduled to resume play on Sunday, Oct. 23, when they travel to Madisonville, TN, to play Hiwassee College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
