Box Score Union, SC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte volleyball team opened it's 2022 slate on Wednesday night taking on USC-Union. It was the first ever meeting between the two programs.
The Wildcats got off to a slow start against a Bantam squad that had already played three matches as JWU dropped the first set 25-18. Coach Callie Phillips rallied her team to cruise to a 25-13 second set win, and JWU took control of the match from that point. The Wildcats won set three 25-21 and closed out the match with a 25-15 win in set four.
JWU got a combined 34 kills from the freshman trio of Ahmarie Young, Aimee Evans, and Kaylee Atkins, as the Wildcats hit .287 as a team. Young added 16 digs, while Mikayla Seymour-Tucker led the way with 18 digs. Logan Smith (17) and Niecee Perofeta (18) combined for 18 assists. Evans also recorded 6 solo blocks.
JWU improves to 1-0, while USC-Union falls to 1-3.
The Wildcats are back in action tonight as they travel to Bluefield State for a 5:00pm match.
