Box Score Petersburg, VA - 5th seeded Johnson & Wales Charlotte upended 4th seeded Penn State-Lehigh Valley 79-61 in the USCAA National Championship quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon.
The Wildcats led for all but fifty-one seconds of the first half, as Tanaeschia Dorsey poured in 24 first half points to stake JWU to an 8 point halftime advantage. Dorsey made 11 of 17 field goal attempts in the first half.
Penn State-Lehigh Valley was unable to cut into the JWU lead in the 3rd quarter, and then watched the Wildcats pull away in the fourth. The JWU final period spurt was keyed by 8 points from Jayla Lovett and 6 from Jordan Durant.
JWU outrebounded Lehigh Valley by 6 and forced 22 Lion miscues. The Wildcats shot 44.2% from the field, while holding Lehigh Valley to just 34.2% shooting.
Dorsey finished with a school postseason record 32 points to go along with 8 rebounds. Durant added 14 points and 6 boards, while Sydney Wells came off the bench to record her first career double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Lovett was the fourth Wildcat in double figures with 10.
JWU advances to today's semi-final round where they will take on #8 Penn State-Beaver, who upset top seeded Central Maine Community College on Tuesday. Tip time is 2:00pm.
