JWU Blows Open Close Game With 2nd Half Run

Box Score

Elizabeth City, NC – Johnson & Wales (5-13) traveled to Mid-Atlantic Christian University in search of their first road win of 2013. After a slow start, the Wildcats started to click offensively, and the Wildcats pulled away to win by a final score of 78-58.

The game got off to an inauspicious start as neither team would score in the first three minutes. JWU would eventually find success offensively midway through the half, taking a 12-5 lead. MACU responded with a 6-0 run of their own to cut their deficit to one. A two-handed dunk by Mario Irby would help spark the Wildcats to extend their lead to 20-13. Kindrick Anderson was hot from the outside making multiple 3-pointers. Strong play from Michael Daniel and Kareem Wilson also helped keep JWU's lead at 7, 23-16. The Mustangs would fight back, closing the half with a 6-0 run, and cutting the JWU lead to one at 27-26.

JWU came out of the locker room on fire, as they quickly pushed the lead to 10 just a couple of minutes in the second half. Great inside play by Robbie Sterling,  combined solid contributions from Joshua Cohen and Omar Nuboer pushed the Wildcats lead to 49-35. Anderson, still hot from the outside, made two more 3 point baskets moving the Wildcats out to a 21 point lead. The Mustangs would not be able to close the gap in the final minutes of the game, as JWU went on to win by a 78-58 score.

Kindrick Anderson paced the Wildcats with 25 points, including 6-11 from 3 point land. Robbie Sterling and Mario Irby each had solid games in the paint with 13 points and 9 rebounds, and 8 points and 9 rebounds, respectively. Kareem Wilson continued his solid season, nearly recording the program's first ever triple-double. Wilson finished with 11 points on 4 of 7 shooting, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals.

The Wildcats are next in action on Wednesday, January 16th as they travel to Danville, VA to take on the Cougars of Averett University. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm.
