Box Score Elizabeth City, NC - 13th ranked Johnson & Wales (8-17) wrapped up a two game, state-wide road trip on Saturday as they paid a visit to fellow USCAA member Mid-Atlantic Christian (6-12). The Mustangs led for most of the game en route to an 83-80 win, their first in the series.
JWU led 9-8 in the first five minutes of the game before MACU went on an 8-2 run to take a 16-11 lead with 12:33 left. They extended their lead to as many as 10 in the first half, and only 10 first half points from Nick Crawford prevented the Wildcats from trailing by much more than the 8 point deficit they faced at the half.
JWU used an 8-2 run over the first 5 minutes of the second half to claw their way back into the game. A Haywood Jackson layup cut the deficit to three, 46-43. MACU immediately responded with their own 9-2 spurt to push the lead back to 9. The Mustangs had an answer for virtually every Wildcat basket, until the 5:04 mark, when a Kindrick Anderson layup pulled JWU within 1 at 67-66. MACU's Michael Anderson and Questen Ragin then combined to score 9 straight points, handing the Mustangs a ten point advantage with 2:46 left. JWU had one last charge left in them, cutting the lead to 2 on an Anderson three pointer with six seconds left, but the Mustangs closed out the 83-80 win by intercepting JWU's final inbounds pass.
Nick Crawford led the Wildcats with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Kindrick Anderson posted his fourth double-double in his last six games with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Joshua Cohen just missed a double-double, tallying 12 points and 9 rebounds. Duane Chisholm also scored 11 points.
The Wildcats return to Charlotte to start a three game home stand when they face Columbia International on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 7:30pm.
