Pineville, NC - Four different players scored as the Johnson & Wales men's soccer team claimed a decisive 6-0 victory over visiting Wake Tech on Saturday at the OrthoCarolina SportsPlex.
The Wildcats (5-0, 3-0 USCAA) rode a hat trick from freshman Jalen Jackson - his third in as many matches - and a clean sheet from the defense to defeat the Eagles for the second time this season.
Johnson & Wales had previously claimed a 1-0 win at Wake Tech earlier in the month.
"The biggest difference for us is that we've been executing in the final third of the field," said Wildcats head coach James Drzewiecki. "We've been on a great run now in that regard. There's still plenty of things we can work on, but when you're hitting the target, it sure seems to make the games much easier. Our defense carried us earlier in the season, now we're seeing the strikers take some of the pressure off of them."
Jackson opened the scoring in the 18th minute, finishing off a pinpoint cross from winger Alexis Soriano for the early advantage.
The two would switch roles just five minutes later, as Soriano sprinted into the box to finish off Jackson's cross.
Sam Fanning would make it 3-0 in the 28th, plucking the ball off a defender and calmly finishing for his first goal of the year.
Jonathan Arellano would extend the lead in the 60th minute after finishing a quick free kick by Jacob Till, and Jackson would tack on two more in the 77th and 83rd minutes, with assists from Soriano and Arellano, to complete the hat trick.
Rocky Ramirez and Andrew Sanchez combined to keep the shutout for Johnson & Wales.
The Wildcats will resume play on Wednesday when they host USC-Lancaster at the OrthoCarolina SportsPlex. The match will be part of a double header with the women's program, with the women kicking off at 4:30 p.m. and the men kicking off at 7:00 p.m.
