Men's Soccer Opens Group Play With Victory

Box Score

Virginia Beach, VA - The JWU Men's Soccer Team opened up the 2018 USCAA D2 National Championships with a 2-0 win over #5 SUNY ESF.

It was the first match of group play for the Wildcats (12-1), and it took some time to find their feet. Finally, in the 24th minute, a long run down the flank ended in excellent service from Imani Washington to a streaking Weeb Isaac. Isaac calmly finished the cross for his 7th goal of the season. The score held until 17 minutes into the second half, when Tito Villanueva iced the game for #1 JWU. This time, Isaac collected the assist.

Head Coach Matt Payne on the performance, "Well, it wasn't the prettiest game we've ever played, but at this stage, we will take it however we can get it. Credit to ESF: they had a great gameplan and they really used their size and physicality to put us under a lot of pressure. I'm proud of our guys for grinding out a result against such a hardworking opponent."

The Wildcats play #4 King's (NY) on Nov. 10 at 4:45 pm.
