Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte men's basketball team got the 2022-23 campaign started with a bang as they defeated New Hope Collegiate 124-74 on Wednesday night.

How It Happened:

• The Wildcats raced out to a 13-0 lead aided by two Ethan Smith three-pointers.
• A Nathan Meshida conventional three point play put JWU up 33-11 midway through the first half.
• Fred Patterson's free throw with 11 seconds left in the first half staked the Wildcats to a 57-30 halftime advantage.
• Zyrion Wilkins's three-pointer at the 7:30 mark of the second half sent JWU over the 100 point mark.
• Jevon Andrew and Christian Tucker each scored 5 points in the final two minutes to push the Wildcats to a new single-game scoring record

Key Stats:

• JWU shot 55.8% from the field compared to just 34.7% for the Gladiators.
• Patterson and Anthoney Ray each had 19 points, while Wilkins added 16 and Smith 15.
• Patterson and Ray had 9 rebounds apiece. Wilkins along with Jaylen Benson-Hollinhead grabbed 8 each.
• JWU improves to 1-0, while New Hope drops to 0-1.
