Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte men's basketball program welcomes eight newcomers that will join the 2024-2025 roster. This incoming class comes from as close as Charlotte and as far away as Jacksonville, FL. Head Coach
Marc Slade had this to say about the new additions to the Wildcat roster. "We are extremely thrilled about the pieces we added in recruiting this off season. It is a class of versatility; all these incoming players will bring different and valuable skills to the squad. They will fit well with what we bring back from last years team. I am excited to get to coach this year's group."
Jordan Appling is an incoming freshman from Providence Day School in Charlotte. As the starting point guard, Jordan helped PDS achieve a 25-9 overall record with an appearance in the NCISAA 3A State Championship game. Appling is planning to study Corporate Accounting & Financial Analysis. He credits great academics, coaching staff and team culture as his main reasons for choosing JWU-Charlotte.
Salisbury, NC native
William Givens, Jr. is a combo guard from West Rowan High School. During his time at West Rowan, he amassed over 1,000 career points. He will study Corporate Accounting & Financial Analysis. Givens mentions that he chose JWU-Charlotte for the academic support and coaching staff. He says he felt at home when coming on campus for visits and games.
Greenville, South Carolina's
Josh Hennum joins the 2024-2025 JWU-Charlotte roster. He played prep hoops at Southside Christian. Hennum will start his pursuit of a degree in Sports, Event, and Entertainment Management this fall. Josh lists his biggest high school accomplishment as the day he signed to play college basketball. He also goes on to reveals that he chose JWU-Charlotte because of the great coaching staff and great job opportunities after graduation.
Cameron Hunter joins the squad as an incoming freshman. Hailing from Cary, NC, Cameron hangs his hat on the defensive side of the ball. During his senior year at Panther Creek High School, Hunter was named 1
st Team All-Conference, averaging 10 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, while totaling seven double-doubles. Cameron attributes the atmosphere on campus and welcoming feeling with the team as why he chose JWU-Charlotte.
When looking for a college home, incoming Freshman
Nicholes Levy didn't have to travel far. Levy was a team captain at Charlotte Latin School and during his senior year he was announced as an All-Star in the NC Private School All-Star Game. Nicholes has decided to study Business Administration here at JWU-Charlotte. When asked why he decided to become a Wildcat, Levy had this to say, "I chose JWU-Charlotte because of the location and the love Coach Slade showed me during the recruiting process."
The lone transfer in the 2024 class is
Sabastian Taylor. Taylor, who comes from Gaston College, will provide physical play in the front court. Before Gaston College, Sabastian played high school basketball at Independence High School where he was a key piece on the 2020 State Championship team. Taylor will major in Fashion and Design here at JWU-Charlotte.
Joining the team from Jacksonville, FL,
Malcolm Warthen played his high school basketball at Hilliard Middle-Senior. Warthen's biggest high school accomplishment was when he erupted for 52 points in one game. Malcolm will pursue a Sports, Event, and Entertainment Management Degree. He expressed that the campus atmosphere and being closer to his mother are the two biggest reasons he chose to attend JWU-Charlotte this fall.
Cooper Wiley is the final member of the 2024 class. He calls Blythewood, SC home. As a senior at AC Flora High School, Cooper led his team to a 21-7 overall record. As a result of his consistent performance, he was placed on the All-Area 1
st team. Wiley will major in Media & Communication. On top of being close to home and his family, Cooper mentioned that the community at Johnson & Wales was a big reason that he chose to attend.
