Charlotte, N.C. - Johnson & Wales Charlotte head baseball coach has announced the signing of Zach Welch to the Wildcats' 2025 recruiting class.
Welch is a recent graduate of Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, S.C. He played infield for the Patriots, and helped lead them to a 16-15 record in 2026, resulting in a SCHSL 5A state quarterfinal appearance. Welch plays club baseball for Summerville Vapor.
He is the son of Melinda and Tommy Welch and plans to major in Business Administration at Johnson & Wales. "The reason I chose JWU was I believe it can help me for my next stages in life," replied Welch when asked why he decided to become a Wildcat. He was an A/B Honor Roll student at FDHS.
Coach Hucke had this to say when asked about Welch. "Zach is the type of player that we look for, hard nosed, versatile, brings energy. Â He will do well here!"
